Introduction to Stars/horoscope

Astrology consists of a number of belief systems which hold that there is a relationship between astronomical phenomena and events in the Human World. In the West astrology most often consists of a system of horoscopes that claims to predict aspects of an individual’s personality or life history based on the position of the sun, moon and other planetary objects at the time of their birth.

Traditionally the word star referred also to planets and any luminous celestial objects. The well known or Classical planets are the permanent bodies that move relative to the fixed stars and were visible to the ancient people. These are the sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. However the modern IAU definition of planets does not include the Sun or Moon, astrology retains this historical definition with the addition of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.A central principle of astrology is integration within the cosmos. The individual, Earth, and its environment are viewed as part of a single organism, all parts of which are correlated with each other.

Many believe that most cultural systems of astrology share common roots in their ancient philosophies. However many have unique methodologies which differ from those developed in the west. The most recognized and significant ones are Hindu (Indian) and the Chinese astrology. But I have never heard of the Ethiopian astrology, which is known as Awudanagest. The Ethiopian Audanagast has its own unique methodology to identify the individual stars within the Zodiac. What is interesting is it even predicts birth dates together with personalities and behaviors based on mothers’ names, dates and years.
